How to Speed Up YourComputer
Speeding Up Your Computer

1) Go to your start menu, click run, type in MSCONFIG when the file comes up open the start
menu and un-check everything you don't need. The only thing you will need with Norton
installed is a file called CcApp which is needed for accessing the internet. Try un-checking
each item then rebooting your computer to see if it's affected by the change. Your goal is to get
rid of everything running in the back ground and icons next to the computers clock.

2) Go to your start menu, click settings, control panel, internet options, general, delete temp
files and browser history. Delete all of those cookies and temp files. You can also go to
Internet Explorer tools delete history. Do this on each browser you have.

3) Go to, Start menu, control panel, mouse properties, motion, increase your mouse speed.
Don't worry about acceleration, it's deferred when playing games anyway.

4) Go to, Disk clean up, compress those old files, get rid of stuff you don't need or ever use,
and delete those temp files including all restore points, except the last one saved.

5) Go to, Start menu, control panel, add or remove programs, get rid of the stuff you don't
need. Get rid of the tool bars you down loaded, weather bug, bonzi buddy, ad helper, ad watch,
lime wire, and stuff you don't use like quicken. If you're not sure what something is just copy
paste it into goggle and it will tell you what it is for.

6) Run Ad Awear, AVG, Spy Wear Blaster, Spy Bot, & Avast, I have all of these, and I run
each of them every day. Their free and available on.

7) Defragment your computer often and more then once each time you do it.

8) Reboot your system after you make all of these changes.

9) Do not have Norton or any other virus protection on while on a dedicated server, you don't
need it and it slows you down.

10) Increase your RAM, it's not that expensive and its easy to do. If your under 1 gig now and
you increase to double that, you will see a big difference, like night and day if you expand to 2
gigs. If you're at 2 gigs and expand to 4 gigs, it's not that noticeable but every little bit helps. If
you're running 1 gig or under and using windows X-P with a full start up menu, you are using
part of your hard drive as temporary RAM which slows you down and causes Lag.

11) Check your computers clock, see that it's accurate and does not lose time. If it's off you
may have trouble signing on to a game.

12) Get the latest version of Direct X 9.0 at.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

13) Always Keep Windows Up to Date at.
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

14) If your using Windows 98, get a new computer, Microsoft no longer recognizes it as an
operating system.

15) Use the fastest processor with the most gig's you can afford and run the biggest video card
you can get. The video card has its own processor and RAM which takes the load of running
graphics off of your mother board and system. Also use a gaming or ethernet card for your
connection instead of the mother board port. Also use the fastest internet connection available.

16) If you have more then one computer on your connection make sure that no one is
streaming video, live feed, or downloading music files. And make your kids get rid of Limewire,
these programs steal your band width and slow you down.
